A recent article in The Daily Telegraph newspaper has some quite alarming statistics about the number of deaths in the UK related to asthma and how the UK compares to the rest of Europe.
Just a thought, but how about a simple, GDPR compliant solution? Drawing on our collaboration with Confirmit how about an SMS-based solution? Everyone has a mobile phone nowadays, so how about a primary care GP practice pinging 2 or 3 questions by SMS to asthma patients every 2 or 3 weeks. Questions like “over the past 3 weeks how often have you had to use your reliever inhaler?”. Answers are captured and any responses that cause concern can be automatically flagged to the practice and the patient contacted for review. This is very scalable; could be rolled out across whole CCGs or Health Boards, even across the UK. Just a thought. Anything has to be better than the current statistics.
